The Hulu+ dilemma after ditching cable

Hi, I’m Doug — a tech enthusiast, home lab builder, and AI explorer. I share practical projects, lessons learned, and ways to make technology work smarter, not harder.

At the beginning of 2013 I decided that it was time to ditch cable.  The idea of saving $60 or more a month was very appealing so I cut the cord and bought a really good over the air antenna.  I also decided to subscribe to Hulu and I resubscribed to Netflix streaming which we use a good amount now.
The main reason for signing up for Hulu+ was to watch shows such as Burn Notice and any other regular TV shows that I might miss on the over the air channels.  The dilemma is, Burn Notice is not going to be on Hulu for 30 days after the first air date.  If you have a cable provider, you can get them sooner but without cable that is no longer an option.
If you plan on ditching cable, be sure that you can either live without some shows for many days after they air or be willing to pay for them on Amazon or iTunes.  Also, if you think Hulu is the answer, make sure that you use the free trial and see if it is worth it to you.
Updated 10/31/13:
After watching the last few episodes of Burn Notice, I put Hulu+ on hold.  One of the main reasons is that there aren’t really any other shows that I want to watch.  Another issue that I had with Hulu+ is the amount of commercials.  I understand that advertising is a big part of the unpaid Hulu program but more than 10 minutes of commercials in a 42 minute long show that I am paying to watch is unacceptable.  Will Hulu miss my $8 a month, I don’t think so but I guess I won’t miss what they were offering either.
